Haha, I got a detailed reply from the journalist who wrote the article - go me Cool (Although I don't know if I can be bothered to repost it, as it's just very po-faced and quite silly!)

Hi Flying Nelly,

Hey, please post what the journalist sent you, I'd love to hear how he/she justified what they wrote..

When I first read the first page of this topic, I thought how silly, there is NO WAY music this beautiful could be phonily "manufactured" - what an idiotic suggestion. And I love the way TTR dress, jeans/tshirts etc, nothing insincere about that. For sure this needs to be stopped/addressed before fiction becomes fact.

anyway, yeah, please post what the journalist said if you will. I think I will go now and write a complaint too.

If do, please do so to the Guardian journalist and not the BBC. The BBC only took as fact what was printed in a newspaper which didn't retract their opinion, and have since removed the Keane references. Tim himself said Mr P angered them, so direct your frustrations that way!

Has Tim written to the newspaper to express this? Is there going to be any concerted challenge to the Moving Brands article or to this article? Is it, in fact, just going to be dropped, leaving all but the people on here (who are partisan enough anyway) thinking the band is actually completely plastic and manufactured?

but isn't that article on keane.at?? Wink

Oh, go on then... Cool

Quote:
Hello!

Thankyou for contacting us about this article. I am the journalist who
wrote the article for the BBC News website, based on a piece for BBC
World Service's The Music Biz programme. Some of the wording of the
article was taken from the programme script, including the reference to
Keane's hiring of image consultants.

Subsequent to your complaint, I checked with the producers of The Music
Biz programme who confirmed that they had taken their information from
Petridis's article. Since we have now been alerted to Tim Rice-Oxley's
rebuffing of this story, we have removed the reference to Keane
(although was never the point of our article anyway).

In fairness, as I hope you would appreciate, it was very difficult to
track down Tim Rice-Oxley's response to the Petredis article. It is two
months old, appears only under the name "tim" on the third of eight
pages of a debate, and in a message board subsection ("Keane chat")!
However since, as I say, the reference to Keane was only incidental to
the article, we're more than happy to remove it to avoid causing any
further offence.

Thanks so much for contacting us about this - feedback is always
appreciated.
Cheers!
Ben

They do kind of have a point... Camp Nelly is in disarray tonight though (not the good kind either), so can't really be bothered to argue with them, for once!

I would agree with Chris though - I got a response basically because I'd written a mostly tongue-in-cheek complaint saying 'er, oi, check your facts, it's lazy journalism!'. However the real source of the 'issue' as it were is, again, Alexis Peditris at the Guardian- not the BBC. I would suggest that if people want to force the issue with the Guardian, that they make sure they mark their comments 'for publication' - otherwise you'll never hear back from them...

Have fun Smile

Will do, Chris, thx for the info. I'm glad Tim wrote something; people take silence as agreement.

BTW, I also don't think they're selling out by letting their music be used commercially, or by doing every festival/gig they can get, because if they had not done SNL here I wouldn't have seen it and who knows how long it would have taken me to stumble over them - I live in a more rural area (Idaho) so I don't pay attention to concert schedules in San Francisco. :)

They're getting their music out there, I think they know what they are doing.

ps. I just saw your post Flying Nelly, with the journalist's reply. His excuse of getting the remark about Keane from somebody else is no excuse, that is still lazy journalism ie UNPROFESSIONAL and he didn't check his 'facts' -- but looks like Tim should've written directly to him too!!

Maybe Tim and the band are tired of only being able to speak because they have to defend themselves on everything they do.

However, I do commend everyone here for defending the band and taking an active action by communicating directly with these journalists. It looks like it's done some good.

As Jamie Oliver would say. "It's Pukka". Smile
